KK’s Favorite Albums of 2011

I’m not really sure how to order these, because I love them all for different reasons. So here, in no particular order, are a couple of my favorite albums from the past year.

White Denim ‘D’

A perfect balance of Southern rock and indie music, I fell in love with the sound of this album. The Rolling Stone describes them as “indie rock, psych blues, punk country and hippie boogie in hard-driving punk-pastoral garage jams.” What? Just listen, my bourbon loving friend from Kentucky highly recommends it.

Iron & Wine ‘Kiss Each Other Clean’

A more upbeat album for Iron & Wine, showing that even this ten year old solo project of Sam Beam has more to show. Tree by the River gets stuck in my head and it takes me daaaaays to get it out.

The Decemberists ‘The King is Dead’

Basically. Americana music in a nutshell. Created in an abandoned barn in Oregon Meloy and his troupe have created a flawless album. There really isn’t much I can say about it, you’ll have to listen. The lyrics are fantastic, but they do so much more than sound pretty. Most of them tell stories that flow so beautifully with the intricately crafted music that accompanies them.

Beach Fossils ‘What a Pleasure - EP’

This year I started listening to this genre of surfer-indie-rock. In love. This EP captures the essence of the band, chill vibes and lax music. I love playing this in the background while I’m hanging out in my dorm room.

Of course, there is Bon Iver, Toro y Moi, Washed Out, Fleet Foxes, and Mumford & Sons. Not to mention so many more. These are just some of the albums that I listened to this year that weren’t mentioned. I hope you enjoy!
