Max’s Top Albums of 2011

Snow Patrol, Called Out In The Dark - EP

A very late entry but very valid. I’ve always had a thing for Snow Patrol… and by “always” I mean Final Straw and Eyes Open were wonderful albums and I was oblivious to everything after that until now. But hey, if one EP can make up for about 5 years then that probably says something.

Young The Giant, Young The Giant

I’ve already made the case for listening to YTG earlier in 2011 so it should really come as no surprise that their album has made my list.

The Wombats, This Modern Glitch

Sometimes we can take ourselves too seriously. That’s why a fun album is essential to keeping yourself from becoming a robot and if you ask me This Modern Glitch is perfect for that.

Justice, Civilization

While it didn’t blow me away quite as much as I had hoped, it was still pretty phenominal. Enough to make it on this list so there you go.

Gotye, Making Mirrors

I swear I’d never heard of Gotye before I made that post a while back and almost immediately afterwards it seems as though he took over the internet. A great sound, a great new album and a kickass music video that is practically viral… can we call 2011 the year of Gotye? No? Well it was worth asking.

Friendly Fires, Pala

Feel like taking a trip to Rio De Janeiro? No? What are you, poor? Whatever… listen to Pala. It’s just as good. Well not actually but who cares. It’s still awesome.

Coldplay, Mylo Xyloto

Sometimes I think Soundboard should ban Coldplay and Bon Iver because it seems like we all love them and all want to post them every day and that’s not an option. I mean, have you seen how many posts have been tagged with those artists? Anyway, Mylo Xyloto is on the list. Shocked?

AWOLNATION, Megalithic Symphony

This album was deemed worthy of the tag #SongsFromAlbumsMaxCanEnjoyFromStartToFinish (I didn’t actuyally tag the Soundboard post that way. It’s more of a symbolic tag.) So that means it’s going to be on this list. That’s kind of a low bar I guess but it’s the one I’ve set. Deal with it.

Wolf Gang, Suego Faults

AKA that album with that one song that had been on most of our dashboards at least once but we may or may not have actually listened to. You should have though. And the album. It’s great. But don’t take my snark as law, all of these albums are on Spotify and that makes everyone happy. You happy now, yes? I’m kind of noticing that this list seems almost entirely based around albums with tropical or water themes. 2011… the year of beaches. Can we… no? Okay.
