Elton John - Madman Across the Water

I was raised on my father’s music recommendations. From the time I was young, he told me to check out this artist and that artist. He’s the one responsible for my curiosity and interest in music, and even though we don’t listen to the same stuff these days, I’m so incredibly grateful for him expanding my horizons. However, during one of my sillier music phases when I was young and naive, I scoffed when he told me to listen to some Elton John. Early on in high school, though, he played this album on a weekend morning. I was instantly hooked. I immersed myself in his records for hours upon hours. While I can’t really say anything about what makes Elton great that hasn’t been said a hundred times over, I’d like to mention that he sparked my enthusiasm for good songwriting. While what I listen to is always shifting, his music has been a mainstay since that first day. People are always surprised when I tell them that I’m a fan of his, and I admit, he certainly stands out against the other artists I actively listen to these days. Regardless, his tunes have a deeper meaning for me, as they were the catalyst for a radical shift in the stuff I appreciated. I’m sure I’ll still be listening to him for years and years to come. Here’s one of my favorites.
